First lady to visit Virginia on Thursday

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — First lady Michelle Obama is headed to Virginia to campaign for her husband.

The Obama-Biden campaign announced a two-city swing Tuesday.

The first stop will be in downtown Richmond, where Obama will speak to supporters at 2 p.m. Thursday. Then it's on to Fredericksburg for a 5 p.m. speech at the University of Mary Washington.

The first lady had been scheduled to speak at the university in July, but that appearance was canceled following the mass shooting in Colorado.

President Barack Obama is trying for a repeat of his performance in Virginia four years ago, when he became the first Democratic presidential candidate to carry the state since 1964.

Ann Romney spoke to her husband Mitt Romney's supporters in Leesburg on Friday.
