WASHINGTON (AP) — A top adviser to President Obama says Mitt Romney was short on details in his acceptance speech to the Republican National Convention.

David Axelrod tells MSNBC's "Morning Joe" that people were hoping to hear practical solutions in Thursday's address. But Axelrod says they mostly got snarky lines about the president, gauzy reminiscences about the past and buzzwords for the conservative base.

Axelrod says the focus at next week's Democratic National Convention will be on Obama's promise to rebuild the middle class and the economy. The adviser says Democrats want to bring into focus a clear choice between moving forward on the economy or returning to policies that created the recession.

And Axelrod says that in hindsight, Republicans must be regretting Clint Eastwood's rambling convention speech.
