@retired_and_glad: the most common argument is "it's my body and it's my right to do what I want with it" The moment you become pregnant it's no longer just your body. It's your body and your unborn babies body too. Two bodies. It's not like having a wart removed, it's not a growth, it's a human being. @mom2cats: "we're talking about sperm meeting eggs-not a person" Congratulations you just told us all how a person is created. Has a sperm not met an egg you would not exist. Would you have wanted your mother to abort you? You don't need to answer my question and I don't need to know. I"m simply making the point that yes, when sperm meets egg a person it does make. We are indeed talking about people, children, an entire generation lost.

When will the republicans stop trying to push their religious beliefs on everyone. There are reasons someone would do this. It is not YOUR right to interfere with the decisions of someone else when it comes to their body. Jitterbug, this IS NOT the civil rights of our time. It has been decided by Roe VS Wade. It has been the law for a long time and it is time the republicans (a bunch of old men and brain washed women)stop trying to tell women what they can't do with their bodies.

These items are about distracting us while other much more important legislation (economic, environmental) passes without our noticing. Except for hardcore Roman Catholics (like Paul Ryan) and many evangelicals, most churches recognize the basic human rights of the mother as a priority. Letting the minority rule on this issue is just wrong. Period.

I think a woman should be able to choose; however I think that if it be done, it should be done within the first trimester. The government has no role in telling us what we should and shouldn't do with our bodies.

Oh, and if you want abortion to be illegal, try putting sex-ed back into the school systems. When hormones are raging, teenagers need to have the facts about what can happen. Many of them are not getting it at home and George W took it out of schools.

Pro-choice v. Pro-life arguments aside, what do you all think will happen if abortion is deemed illegal? It's not going to keep people from having abortions - you should know that if you took any kind of history class. All it means is that they will be done in homes or alleys and in unsafe environments. And what if someone is caught participating in an abortion. Do you really think we need to load up the justice system more? There are so many other issues at stake than just whether or not the embryo is a person!
