Information and photo submitted by Bell's campaign:

My name is Anton Bell, and I’m seeking the office of Commonwealth’s Attorney for the great city of Hampton.

Hampton is a city that offers a quality of life that's second to none in the nation. With its unique mix of business, historic charm, and scenic waterfronts, Hampton boasts all of the conveniences of a large metropolitan area, while still maintaining its small community feel.

My mom raised me in one of the toughest neighborhoods in Hampton Roads as a single-parent. When I was a child, she instilled in me values that shaped and propelled me through college and law school where I graduated with honors.

Since 2000, I’ve proudly served the city of Hampton as an Assistant Commonwealth Attorney. I was later promoted to Deputy Commonwealth Attorney, where I managed teams of prosecutors in both General District Court and Juvenile Domestic and Relations District Court. During my tenure in this office, I have been cross-designation as a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia and assignment to the Peninsula Drug Task Force, which allowed me the opportunity to combat drug trafficking in federal and state courts. As such, I have the experience, expertise, and character to manage this office with the excellence and integrity it deserves.

It has, indeed, been my pleasure to serve the city of Hampton over the last decade combating such crimes as violent murders, child molestations, robberies, drug trafficking, to ensure the safety of you and your family in this great city we all call home.

As Commonwealth’s Attorney, my three top priorities would be to: 1) aggressively prosecute and secure convictions for violent crimes; 2) tenaciously combat gang-related crimes and activities; and 3) create proactive initiatives that partner with community resources to provide alternatives for our high-risk youth to keep them out of the penal system altogether.

As an ordained and licensed minister at Calvary Revival Church, where my wife, Dr. Dawn Yvette Bishop are active in youth ministries, I’ve mentored youth much longer than I’ve prosecuted them and have always stressed to them the need to make positive choices, dream big and remain focused on their goals.

I’m no stranger to the needs and challenges facing our city, or the work it will take to keep our city safe. On June 12th, there will be a special election to fill the position of Commonwealth Attorney.  Please join me by informing your friends and neighbors to come out to RING THE BELL for justice and vote Anton Bell as Hampton’s Commonwealth Attorney!

Mr. Bell only lives in Hampton as a candidate. He stated in a Forum that he intends to move back to Va. Beach win or lose. That is not the type of person we need. He is also a Republican running as a Democrat and that is wrong.

As Eddie clearly states, if Mr. Bell only follows the letter of the law and not the intent, is he someone we want representing us in Hampton? The point of having candidates live in the locality the serve is to ensure they know the problems that occur there. Mr. Bell is showing us by his actions that he isn't really plugged into Hampton. So how can he really care when his decisions in office won't affect his community? His comment about driving the HRBT means that he in touch with the traffic issues, which isn't a issue for the Commonweath's Attorney.

Mr. Bell is part of the Machine in Hampton, and we do not need this. The Commonwealth Attorney is separate from the city, and Bell needs to understand that. He needs to go back to Virginia Beach where he spends his paycheck.
