Delegate Kenneth Cooper Alexander was born and reared in Norfolk, VA and became president of his neighborhood’s civic league and Community Housing and Development Corporation. Today, he teaches Old and New Testament at the same church he attended as a child as well as teaches International Relations at Tidewater Community College. Additionally, Delegate Alexander is a Funeral Director and President of Metropolitan Funeral Service, a small family-owned business, with two locations in Norfolk.

Delegate Alexander has been a member of the Virginia House of Delegates since 2002, and serves on the Committees of Commerce and Labor, Education, Privileges and Elections, and Rules.  He also serves on the Commission on the Medical, Ethical, and Scientific issues relating to Stem Cell Research, Commission on Civics Education, and Joint Commission on Technology and Science. Formerly, Delegate Alexander served on the Joint Subcommittee Studying Lead Poisoning Prevention and the Science of Technology Committee in the House of Delegates.

Prior to being elected as a member of the House of Delegates, Delegate Alexander served as Vice-Chairman of Norfolk’s Planning Commission, member of Norfolk’s Economic Development Authority, member of Norfolk’s Human Service Commission, and member of the Commission for the study of the popular election of the office of Mayor for the City of Norfolk.

Delegate Alexander holds a Master of Arts Degree from Norwich University, a Bachelor of Science Degree from Old Dominion University, and an Associate Degree in Applied Science from John Tyler Community College.  He is also a graduate of the FBI Citizen’s Academy, Fellow of the Sorenson Institute for Political Leadership, and Toll Fellow of the Council of State Governments.
